Language Arts
We use Pearson Reading Street as our reading series. Each unit contains five stories centered around a big question. That question is added to each week to help form a deeper understanding of the reading. Every Friday, we will be taking a test over the concept of the week as well as the weekly spelling and vocabulary. We use the Reading Street also for writing units and cover topics such as personal narratives, persuasive letters, informational writing, poetry, and literary essay. Students are building their stamina in writing, this means that they can write for a continuous sustained period of time without stopping.
Spelling & Vocabulary
Each week, students are responsible for learning a spelling pattern or sound. Monday we pretest in planners. Students choose activities off the choice board each week as homework. Students then are tested on the twenty given words and five bonus words on Fridays of each week.
The spelling words and vocabulary for each week can be found by clicking on the Reading Street units below. |
